Over a year, seven largest natural disasters occurred in the world, which are repeated no more than once every thousand years, the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies Sergey Shoigu stated on Tuesday. Shoigu announced the statistics of natural disasters at the opening of the Complex Security - 2011 international salon in the All -Russian Exhibition Center, while he retained the intrigue, naming only four disasters of the seven mentioned.
"Over the past year and a half, a number of serious events have occurred on the planet - the seven largest disasters, the repeatability of which once every thousand years. But they all fit in one year," Shoigu said. Among the grandiose disasters, the head of the Ministry of Emergencies called natural fires in Russia last summer, catastrophic floods in Pakistan, ice rains in the winter of 2010 in Central Russia, natural, outgrown into a technogenic, disaster in Japan this spring, ITAR-TASS reports.
Earlier, Russian experts, analyzing the results of the last year, recognized the abnormal heat , which had been in central Russia for more than 50 days in the summer of 2010, the largest natural disaster for the entire observation time. According to experts of the hydrometeorological center, such disasters occur once every 5 thousand years.
The exhausting heat caused mass fires with human victims and the destruction of ecology in the vast territory of the Central and Volga federal districts. In Moscow, several temperature records were broken at once, and on July 29 a new absolute maximum of air temperature was set - plus 38.2 degrees.
The second most important natural disaster of 2010, experts called the most powerful flood over the past 80 years in August 2010, caused by powerful mousson showers. As a result of the revelry of the elements, the total number of victims from the flood was 20 million people, more than 1.6 thousand were killed. Water destroyed thousands of houses, entire villages were washed off in the most severe regions. According to the government, Pakistan will take 5 years and up to $ 15 billion to carry out recovery work in areas destroyed by floods.
It should be noted that strong floods due to heavy rains, which led to the deaths of hundreds of people and destroyed the infrastructure, also occurred last year in West Africa, Thailand, north of South America and the Caribbean, and Balkans. At the same time, destructive hurricanes raged in the continental regions of Europe and North America.
Weather forecasters do not agree with Shoigu - Ice rains are every 30, and not a thousand years
In December 2010, Russia was struck by a new attack - ice rains , which, in particular, in Moscow and the region, as well as in St. Petersburg and the surroundings.
According to capital weather forecasters, this month became the most plentiful in the amount of precipitation and was remembered by the icy rain on December 26, which led to a strong ice. Due to ice rain in Moscow, 27 people were injured. In addition, the element led to a malfunction in the work of airports. Thousands of people were forced to sit in airport buildings for days, waiting for departure.
In the Hydrometer of the Moscow and the Moscow Region, earlier commenting on the icy rain, however, they did not say, like Shoigu, that this phenomenon happens every thousand years. On the contrary, meteorologists noted that this happens about once every 30 years. In January, ice rains on a smaller scale were recorded in the suburbs.
Another large -scale disaster, according to Sergei Shoigu, was an accident at the Japanese NPP Fukushima. Due to the earthquake of March 11 and the tsunami that followed him, the station reactors received destruction, which led to their overheating and a radiation leak. The situation still cannot be resolved.
“All this forces science, production, those who are engaged in the elimination of the consequences of emergency situations, move further and further forward in creating new technologies and technology,” Schoigu summed up his speech dedicated to disasters.
440 exhibitors are presented on the cabin
At the complex "complex security", the organizers of which are the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergencies, 440 exhibitors from 25 countries of the world are represented. Among the exhibits are new fire extinguishing systems, salvation on the waters, video surveillance systems, domestic and foreign unmanned vehicles used by the Ministry of Emergencies, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian Ministry of Defense. The opening of the exhibition was participated by Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov.
Sergei Shoigu expressed the hope that most of the represented security complexes will be in demand by "territories, constituent entities of the Russian Federation, foresters, seismologists, pilots, as well as our colleagues abroad."
In turn, the Minister of Internal Affairs Rashid Nurgaliev recalled that the threats became global, and therefore it is possible to ensure the security of the individual, society and the state only in the complex, RIA Novosti reports.
"Today, at this salon, we will see new technologies, information and telecommunication systems that allow in real time to manage those crisis processes that occur in a particular sphere at a particular point of our country," the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said. Nurgaliev noted that the salon unites both science and power structures.
According to the head of the Ministry of Emergencies, on May 20, the equipment presented at the exhibition will be shown in action and in work on demonstration exercises in the Noginsk near Moscow.
