Businessman Alexander Lebedev, heading the National Reserve Bank (NRB), told Gazeta.ru that he had “some problems”, after he posted a video on his blog telling how the FSB generals “laundered money” through banks. “I do not consider it possible to continue the banking business,” said Lebedev.

“I intend to leave the meadow for two months, I will become an ordinary citizen, I will conduct social activities. Why business if it exists in the fight against the FSB? ” He explained his decision.

United Russia has not yet responded to Lebedev’s statement.

The businessman himself is an extraordinary figure. Lebedev has long been a kind of political figure. In 2003, he ran for mayors of Moscow with the support of the Rodina bloc and scored a little more than 10 percent. In 2007, it was planned to be included in the lists of “Fair Russia”, but the negotiations fell off and Lebedev broke contacts with the party. And in the recent regional election, Lebedev was elected a deputy to the Slobodsky District Duma in the Kirov region.

It is also believed that the businessman owes the success of his business to relations in power circles - he seemed to be sent to London the fifth department of the KGB (now - the foreign intelligence service). However, the security forces showed by no means friendliness to Lebedev’s jar. In November 2010, the FSB special forces conducted searches in the National Reserve Bank. After that, Lebedev placed the videos in LJ.

The initiative to enter the Popular Front. Vladimir Putin became a cunning move for a businessman. Formally, EP has no reason for refusal, since they have declared a wide coalition. However, Lebedev is far from all sympathetic and too initiative. And the solution of other people's issues through its “front” is clearly not included in United Russia's plans.

The banker is in a win -win situation. If they refuse him, he rightly says that he exposed the fake character of the ONF. If they agree to accept him in the ONF, he will turn out to be a note by a loyalist.

The final motivation of Lebedev is incomprehensible. Perhaps the point is his personal ambitions and self -disclosure. The option of returning to politics as a deputy of the State Duma to protect business is also likely.

Business protection through politics is a double strategy.

Of course, the deputies of the State Duma, and simply promoted political figures have a kind of immunity. However, this does not give the final guarantee for business. This is not about Khodorkovsky’s case, but rather about the incident of the deputy from the LDPR of Egiazaryan, whom the State Duma deprived of the deputy inviolability, violating the unspoken rule “we do not give out their own”.

United Russia, however, found themselves in a difficult position - they would either have to accept Lebedev, or recognize the moral bankruptcy of their “Popular Front”.
