The reason for the foreign exchange crisis that erupted in Belarus was the presidential election at the end of last year, said Arkady Dvorkovich, assistant to the President of Russia.
“The help that Russia will provide Belarus can stabilize the situation, but in many ways everything will depend on domestic policy. The elections in Belarus have led to the destabilization of the situation,” he stated.
Speaking about the trade between the two countries, Dvorkovich noted that trade between the Russian Federation and Belarus will not suffer, since there are long -term agreements against the main goods. However, devaluation can negatively affect the trade of Belarus with other countries, cites the words of Dvorokovich "Finmarket" .
The help that Russia provides, and the amount that will be allocated by Belarus as a loan is significant to stabilize the situation, the presidential assistant noted. However, in his opinion, the economic situation in Belarus depends primarily on internal decisions.
In March, in Belarus, due to the fears of the devaluation of the Belarusian ruble, there was a stir for foreign currency and, as a result, its shortage. In May, four metabolic courses of the national currency took place in the republic. Dvorkovich hopes that financial assistance from the Russian Federation and the EurAsEC will help Belarus stabilize the situation.
On May 23, the National Bank of Belarus brought down the official Belarusian ruble exchange rate to the dollar, the devaluation amounted to 56%. Nevertheless, and after devaluation, many goods remain in the Minsk stores, RIA Novosti correspondent reports.
In anticipation of devaluation, citizens massively invested money in household appliances. Now in the GUM store on sale there are no refrigerators and washing machines, including Belarusian production. Sellers promise that washing machines will appear on sale over the next few days. When refrigerators appear, they do not know.
The store employees warn that both of them will probably appear on sale already at new prices significantly exceeding the old ones. Recall that today for 1 dollar at the exchange rate of the National Bank you can buy 4.93 thousand Belarusian rubles.
The Kremlin, meanwhile, evaluate the prospects of the Russian ruble, and do not see the risks of growing a ruble course for the Russian economy. According to Arkady Dvorkovich, "a strong ruble is good. On the other hand, the road ruble may be a problem. But so far the situation is stable."
According to him, this is currently due to the outflow of capital from Russia. “Subsequently, the risks of currency may increase, but we hope that the demand for currency will be high, and economic growth will compensate for the threats associated with the growth of the Russian ruble course,” Dvorkovich added.
