Minecraft will appear on smartphones first as an exclusive for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. This was reported by the Gamasutra website with reference to representatives of the Mojang studio.

Earlier in February, Minecraft developers announced that they were working on versions of the game for iOS and Android. The official announcement, as well as the demonstration of the working version, is expected during E3 2011 on June 7. At the moment, it is known that for some period of time the portable version of Minecraft will be exclusively available on the Xperia Play smartphone. Nothing is known yet about the release date of the game on iOS and other Android devices.

The version of Minecraft for Xperia Play is being developed taking into account the presence of control buttons on the smartphone, the layout of which is similar to the PSP console. The developers also stated earlier that the gameplay on a portable device is very different from that on a computer. Therefore, in mobile versions many changes will be made to the game mechanics and interface.

Minecraft has been developed and distributed by Swedish studio Mojang since 2009. The official release date of the project is set for November 11, 2011. The main goal of the game is to interact with the randomly generated world, as well as protection from local creatures. A special feature of Minecraft is its original graphics style - the entire surrounding world consists of three-dimensional pixels. Over the two years of its existence, the game has received many awards for its unusual gaming concept, including at GDC 2011 and IGF 2011. Currently, Minecraft is presented in two versions - classic and beta. The second is constantly updated and is paid. In April, Mojang announced that its paid version had surpassed 2 million subscribers.
