Makhmudov was detained in the morning of May 31 in the house of his parents, the lawyer Murad Musaev, who represents the interests of the brother of Makhmudov Dzhabrail, told the Echo of Moscow. According to New Gazeta, Makhmudov was detained during the special operation of the central devices of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Achkhoy-Martan district.

However, a source in law enforcement agencies of the North Caucasus Federal District confirmed Interfax that the alleged Kolitkovskaya killer was detained in the Achkhoy-Martan district. The detention was carried out at the moment when the security forces were sure that Makhmudov would be able to delay alive, ”the agency’s interlocutor said. In the coming hours of the detainee, they will be sent by plane to Moscow, where he will be questioned as a suspect.

The lawyer of the Makhmudov welcomed the detention of one of the brothers, because, in his opinion, it will greatly affect the further course of the investigation of the murder of Politkovskaya. “I think that now it will be possible to prove his non -involvement: to verify the video, to conduct an examination of DNA,” Musaev said.

“The fact that Rustama Makhmudov was detained does not advance the investigation to disclose the murder. We have repeatedly said that the crime will be disclosed when customers of the crime will be found and punished, ”Anna Stavitskaya, lawyer of children Politkovskaya, said in turn.

The case against the Makhmudovs, Khadzhikurbanov and Ryaguzov should be combined with the case against Rustam Makhmudov and a number of persons not established by the investigation, including customers of the crime. In January 2010, the head of the Department of Threat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Iskandar Galimov said that law enforcement agencies have evidence of guilt of people justified by the court. And in March of this year, the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, said that the investigation in the Politkovskaya case is unlikely to be able to receive direct evidence for the provision in court, but will “increase the volume of indirect evidence”. In early May of this year, the investigation was extended until September 7th.
