Russian President Dmitry Medvedev instructed the Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov and the Minister of Education Andrei Fursenko to consider providing a deferral from the draft for military service to school graduates who have reached conscription.

The head of state proposes to give them the opportunity to “receive one-time admission to educational institutions of higher professional education in the year of completion of secondary (complete) general education,” the Kremlin press service said .

Schoolchildren receive a certificate of maturity in late June. The spring call ends on July 15, and enrollment in institutes - in late July - early August. As a result, graduates who have reached draft age can immediately go to the army, not having the opportunity to enter the university.

Serdyukov, for his part, has already instructed the Ministry of Defense to conduct consultations with interested ministries, departments and deputy corps for the preparation and consideration of legislative amendments.

“On June 3, representatives of the military department will take part in the meeting of the State Duma committee on defense on the issue of expanding the list of categories of citizens who are provided with a deferment from calling for military service,” the Ministry of Defense was told by Interfax in the Department of the Ministry of Defense.
