Anna Politkovskaya’s lawyer Anna Stavitskaya said that the detention of Rustam Makhmudova is not equivalent to the disclosure of the crime.
“We have repeatedly said that the crime will be disclosed when customers of the crime will be found and punished,” she said to RIA Novosti . The lawyer added that Rustam Makhmudov will give the court to assess the involvement of Rustam Makhmudov.
Anna Politkovskaya was killed in Moscow on October 7, 2006. The former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Khadzhikurbanov, as well as the Rustam, Ibrahim and Dzhabrail Makhmudovs, were suspected of murder. In February 2009, the jury justified them for a lack of evidence, but the case was returned to a new consideration. The head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, reported that due to the lack of direct evidence, the investigation intends to build an evidence base in the case on indirect evidence. The investigation of the case was extended until September 7, 2011.
