In the village of Pugachevo near Izhevsk, a military base is on fire. Residents of all nearby settlements have been evacuated, and the fire has not yet been extinguished.

Today, around midnight, ammunition began to explode at the artillery warehouse of the Ministry of Defense near Izhevsk. After a series of explosions, the territory of the military base was engulfed in fire. As Kommersant FM was told by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Udmurt Republic, evacuation from dangerous areas is still ongoing.

“At the moment, 3,710 people, 562 of them children, have been evacuated from the village of Pugacheva, where the military unit is located, from the unit, from the Yursky sanatorium,” said a representative of the department.

Internet users from settlements close to the military base were the first to report the incident. True, local authorities also tried to act as quickly as possible, said Elena Galimunina, a journalist at the Izhevsk TV and Radio Broadcasting Company.

“The President of the Republic, Alexander Volkov, immediately arrived at the scene; he was there at three in the morning. A headquarters has now been created to eliminate the emergency situation. The priority measures are to ensure the safety of the residents of Pugachev and populated areas,” she said.

“First of all, children from the Yursky children's sanatorium. They are currently evacuated. There are no serious injuries among the children, only burns. A psychologist is working with them now. Three victims are known: a soldier from a military unit, a mother and a child with burns. Another woman was injured in a traffic accident during the confusion,” added Elena Galimunina.

Due to a fire and explosions near Izhevsk, a section of the M7 Volga highway and the Agryz-Izhevsk section of the Gorky Railway were closed. More than 20 units of fire equipment, about 100 rescuers, 3 firefighting trains and military personnel are working at the scene of the incident, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports.
