In the newspapers of Business Petersburg and Moscow News, Microsoft announcements will be published for a month about calling the owners of the well -known Botnet Rustock, the creators of which, according to the corporation, are in Russia, Russian Newspaper reports.
The defendants are informed that in accordance with the norms of American legal proceedings, their non -appearance will turn into a decision in favor of the plaintiff. Microsoft lawyers do not have much hope of success, but intend to go to the end, even if you have to turn to Russian courts for help.
Such an unusual way to attract the attention of spammers, according to the company, will give the opportunity to the creators of Botnet (a network from infected computers who send spam and conduct DDOS attacks), defeated by specialists of the software giant, along with law enforcement agencies in March, come to court and submit arguments to their protection.
The Rustock network was the largest spam source in the world, it consisted of approximately 150 thousand cars, sending 30 billion spam messages per day. The Botnet administration used a number of special technologies that made it difficult to detect infected computers.
According to experts from ComMtouch, immediately after the Rustock is disconnected (from March 16 to 19), the number of daily infection of user computers, which includes the computer in the bot-network, decreased to about 150 thousand cases. In early March, when Rustock was still active, this indicator confidently approached 400 thousand infections.
Russian trace
According to Securelist blog, the creators and administrators of Rustock are listed in court documents as anonymous. In an attempt to identify the defendants, Microsoft posted copies of the claim, court orders and notifications on a separate website-noticeofpleadings.com.
The corporation also sent this documentation to the addresses indicated by the "bogos" when registering IP and domains - everything was in vain. Then, however, luck smiled at the researchers. Studying the contents of the hard drives confiscated by court permission, they found the names that brought them to the Russian trail in Rustock.
The WebMoney account, from which the fee for the servers controling Botnet was opened in the name of a resident of the neighboring Moscow Region Vladimir Shergin. Among the tenants, a certain Cosma2k was also listed; As it turned out, this nickname is associated with a number of similar names: Dmitry A. Sergeev, Artem Sergeyev and Sergey Vladimirovich Sergeyev.
In total, as Microsoft believes, they have to find eleven people in Russia.
