An important stage in the political life of Moldova: In 512 settlements of Moldova, including Chisinau, the second round of mayor elections are held. In Chisinau, for the mayor’s mandate, the candidate from the opposition party of the Communists Igor Dodon and the current mayor, candidate from the liberal party Dorin Kirtoaca, are fighting. In the first round, there was a minimum difference between them: Igor Dodon received 166,232 votes, which amounted to 48.07% of the vote, and Dorin Kirtoaca - 160,827 votes (46.51%), Interfax reports.

The plots opened at 8:00 Moscow time on Sunday and close at 22:00. According to the chairman of the CEC Yuri Chokan, who is quoted by ITAR-TASS, the preliminary results of the elections will be published "in the first half of the day on Monday, since this time the volume of work will be less."

In Chisinau - the main intrigue. There lives a third of the country's population and 80% of its economic potential is concentrated. Political scientists believe that Dodon and Kirtoaca have approximately equal chances of victory.

The confrontation between the Communists and the Alliance for European Integration, which includes liberal, liberal-democratic and democratic parties, is noted in most other cities and villages, where the second round will be held.

The current elections will become a kind of breakdown of forces before the main fight for power in Moldova, where parliament has not been able to elect the president for two years. Its election requires vote 61 out of 101 deputies. However, the parties of the ruling coalition have only 59 mandates, and the remaining 42 belong to the Communists who block the election of the chairman of the parliament, the leader of the democrats Marian Lupa put forward to this post.

According to experts, if the opposition or party included in the coalition will achieve a noticeable success during the election, they can go to the dissolution of the parliament with the hope that the third in two years the early elections will change the pattern situation and allow them to agree on the division of power on more favorable terms.

The leader of the Opposition Party of the Communists, ex-president of Moldova Vladimir Voronin said that when making the Kishinev’s appeal chamber, the decision to recalculate the votes of the Communists did not even give a word.

“This criminal, mafia, gangster regime wants to steal the elections again. They are not able to win the elections, but they are used to stealing democracy,” Voronin said at the polling station in the Russian Lyceum named after Antioch Kantemir in the center of Chisinau.

He cited the example of the decision of the Kishinev’s appeal chamber, which decided on Friday to recalculate the votes in the elections to the Chisinau municipal council, in which the Party of Communists received 26 of 51 mandates in the June 5 elections.

"At the same time, not a single argument was given. Our representative was not even allowed to speak really. The appeal chamber simply canceled the decision of the primary court and decided to count the voices," said Voronin.

He noted that "the Communists have their representatives and observers in all polling stations, which should monitor the voting and counting of the votes from beginning to end." Answering the questions of journalists, Voronin said that he voted for "order, for the prosperity of Chisinau and the transformation of the city into a real capital of the state."

"We expect that at the head of Chisinau, finally there will be a real business executive who will turn the capital again into a white, blooming city," said Voronin.
