The Prime Minister of Greece called for a referendum and change the country's constitution

Greece Prime Minister Yorgos Papandreu called on Sunday to hold a referendum on constitutional reform in the fall of this year, RIA Novosti reports. According to Papandreu, who spoke in the country's parliament, “changes in the political system” of Greece that he did not describe in details should be made to the referendum. Greece is on the verge of default on a 350-billion external debt, despite the 110-billion credit support of the EU and the IMF.

The Leo -centric government Papandreu was faced with mass protests against the policy of budgetary reductions in exchange for international loans.

On Friday, Papandreu has already arranged large -scale shifts in his government. This is the second wave over the past year - it affected a significant part of the office. The prime minister appointed new heads of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense. But the most important replacement was the appointment of an Evangelos Venizelos by the new Minister of Finance of the country instead of unpopular Yorgos Papakontin, a highly educated economist, who was an ideologist and main guide to the life of strict abbreviations.

On Sunday, Papandreu demanded confidence from the Votum’s parliament to his government, saying that otherwise the country was facing default.

"I ask a vote of trust, because the country is at the most important crossroads," Papandreu said, opening the three -day parliamentary hearings on the Votum of Trust. According to Papandreu, the country needs to realize budgetary reductions agreed with the EU and the IMF, otherwise Greece faces default, which will have "catastrophic" consequences for banks. The prime minister said that the country's cash reserves will be exhausted "in a very nearby" if in the coming weeks the next tranche of credit support with a volume of 12 billion euros was not received.

As expected, the voting of trust in the new government will be held in the Greek parliament on Tuesday, and next week voting is also expected to vote according to the 28-millionth program of budgetary reductions for the period until 2015.
