“During the debate between the parties, the state prosecutor demanded that Valdez-Garcia be sentenced in absentia to 13 years in prison to be served in a maximum security colony ,” said press secretary of the Basmanny Court of Moscow Ekaterina Korotova .

Valdez-Garcia in 2007, while under recognizance not to leave the place, hid from law enforcement agencies . He was a defendant in the case against the former heads of companies controlled by YUKOS on charges of embezzlement of $13 billion.
