Raspadskaya shares jumped by nine percent on the evening of July 12. This happened a few minutes after the Interfax news agency reported, citing anonymous sources, that VEB could buy 80 percent of the coal company's authorized capital for $5.3 billion. By the end of the trading session, Raspadskaya shares rose by only 2.88 percent compared to the data at the close of the exchanges on July 11.

As can be seen from the chart posted on the MICEX website, at the peak value of Raspadskaya shares on July 12, they cost just over 185 rubles. This means that the company's capitalization was estimated at 144.4 billion rubles ($5.09 billion at the current exchange rate). Thus, the price proposed by VEB far exceeds the market value of Raspadskaya.

Rumors that Raspadskaya will soon change its owner appeared on the market several months ago. Among the contenders for Raspadskaya, the business press named Mechel, Severstal and NLMK - metallurgical companies that need coal assets. Why the state bank needs Raspadskaya has not yet been clarified.

Raspadskaya calls itself the leader of the Russian coal market. The company's production assets are located in the Kemerovo region; the company has licenses to develop deposits in the Kuznetsk coal basin, which provides three-quarters of coking coal production in Russia. The main shareholders of Raspadskaya are Evraz Group and the company's management.
