12 police officers were killed in Mexico

In the Mexican state of the Sinaloa, located in the west of the country, unknown people shot 12 police officers. It is reported by Washington Post with reference to Mexican officials.

According to local security forces, an attack on law enforcement officials occurred on Friday evening, near the city of Gausave. It is noteworthy that the criminals carefully prepared for the attack on the police, having built an impromptu checkpoint on the highway in advance. In addition to the police, a seller who worked nearby in the store was shot in a shootout. It is not known whether there are victims among the attackers.

The police convoy was followed by the city of Los Mobyz, located on the Pacific coast, where law enforcement officers took part in the federal program for the protection of entrepreneurs. On the same day, several unknown armed men attacked the police earlier, as a result of which two law enforcement officers received gunshot wounds.

Recently, the number of crimes related to the struggle of drug carters for the spheres of influence has sharply increased in Mexico. Since in 2006, President Felipe Calderon had attracted an army to fight drug carters, about 37 thousand people were killed.
