Today, July 28, the Chinese company Alibaba introduced the mobile operating system Aliyun OS (“Ali cloud”).

According to a press release on alibaba.com, Aliyun OS uses the Linux kernel and is designed for smartphones and tablets. Aliyun OS can run Android applications and web applications written in HTML5 and JavaScript.

The operating system will be integrated with a number of Internet services, in particular, with a search engine, weather and e-mail. Each user will be provided with 100 gigabytes of space on a remote server. As PCWorld clarifies, photos, messages and a list of contacts will be saved in the cloud.

The development of Aliyun OS took three years. About 1,200 Alibaba employees worked on the operating system. It is reported that in addition to Chinese, the OS will be available in other languages, including English.

Simultaneously with Aliyun OS, Alibaba announced a smartphone and tablet running it. The smartphone will be called K-Touch Cloud-Smart Phone W700 and will go on sale in China in the coming days. The tablet is planned to be released before the end of 2011.

It is known that the price of the smartphone will be 2680 yuan (about $415). It will be equipped with a 3.8-inch touchscreen and an Nvidia Tegra 2 gigahertz processor.

Alibaba operates the online e-commerce platform Alibaba.com. It also owns China's largest online store, Taobao.
