The head of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation addressed Vladimir Putin with an open letter asking for help in the fight against match-fixing. Stepashin, who also heads the supervisory board of FC Dynamo, proposed putting him in prison for making agreements. Kommersant FM sports commentator Vladimir Osipov looked into the details.

The authorities in our country are the last to know about everything. About corruption in the traffic police and bribes in schools and even about the onset of winter in December. Now match-fixing has suddenly surfaced. They spoke openly about the fact that they exist back in the 90s, but only now have politicians paid attention to this chaos.

Famous football player and coach Evgeniy Lovchev explained why: “Because the World Cup is still ahead of us. And as soon as there is the political will of the country’s leaders, they will immediately create a law on fans, on corruption in football. And they will immediately connect the structures, and this will definitely happen ".

In his letter to Putin, Stepashin suggests using the experience of Turkey, where on March 31 of this year a law was passed to prevent violence and disorder in sports. This document affected both the lawlessness of fans and match-fixing. As a result, dozens of people whose guilt has been proven are in prison. The fans will also be curbed. And we still cannot create a body that deals with agreements. And they decided not to adopt the law on fans at all.

State Duma deputy from United Russia Valery Draganov speaks about this: “This does not mean at all that there will be a self-sufficient, integral law separate for fans. In this case, it needs to be done for shoemakers, for journalists, for garbage men, or for some other astronauts.”

Maybe Stepashin’s letter will finally force the top of our government to pay attention to the problems of football?

The current article of the criminal code, which regulates match-fixing, provides for punishment of up to three months in prison, or a fine of up to two hundred thousand rubles. In case of a positive decision on the issue of introducing amendments and additions to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation expresses its readiness to take part in the development of the corresponding draft federal law.
