The pianist Nikolai Petrov died

In Moscow, at the 69th year of his life, the People's Artist of the USSR, Pianist Nikolai Petrov, died, Echo Moscow reports. The funeral will be held on August 5, RIA Novosti told the assistant Petrov.

“At 11.00 in the morning, a farewell to the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory will take place, at 13.00 the funeral service will begin in the Temple of the Great Ascension on Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street, and then he will be buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery at the request of his wife and this is very important,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

In mid -July, it became known that Nikolai Petrov was in serious condition in the Central Clinical Hospital of Moscow, where he was delivered from Minsk.

Nikolai Petrov was hospitalized with a stroke during a tour in Belarus in May 2011, where he arrived at the opening of the Musical Forum "Magic of the Pole" in the Belgosfilarmony. For some time he was treated in the Minsk clinic, but later he was transported to Moscow.

Nikolai Petrov was born in Moscow in a family of musicians on April 14, 1943. His grandfather, Opera Bas Vasily Petrov sang at the Bolshoi Theater, father - cellist Arnold Yakovlevich Ferkelman.

He studied at the Central Music School with Tatyana Kestner, in 1961 he entered the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor Yakov Ku. The very next year, he won the second place at the Van Klaiberna International Pianists Competition, and two years later he achieved the same result at the Queen Elizabeth competition in Brussels.

After graduating from the conservatory in 1968, Petrov began a concert career. During the Cold War, he was one of the few musicians who freely toured abroad. The pianist performs with leading symphonic groups of the world, concerts a lot as a solo musician. His repertoire included most of the works of a classic and romantic heritage, he was also the first performer of the new works of Aram Khachaturian, Tikhon Khrennikov, Rodion Shchedrin, Andrei Eshpai.
