The day before, the head of government and the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, visited one of the metropolitan areas affected by the revelry of thugs, the BBC reports. Residents told the Prime Minister that on the night of August 9, the area was at the disposal of hooligans - there was no police visible on the streets. Londoners demanded that radical measures be taken to ensure the safety of residents.

On the night of August 10, almost 16 thousand police officers were deployed to the streets of London and were allowed to shoot rubber bullets at attackers.

Strengthening control in the capital resulted in a shortage of police officers in other cities of the country. As a result, the night before in West Bromwich near Birmingham, in the center of Manchester and its suburb of Salford, riots took place in Nottingham, in which from 50 to 250 people took part. Hooligans set fire to cars, smashed store windows, and looted grocery stores and boutiques. Earlier, London residents asked to send troops to the capital, and British Home Secretary Theresa May did not rule out this possibility. After the pogroms of August 9, the likelihood of introducing military units into cities increased significantly.
