A malware that blocks the antivirus and can steal money is rapidly spreading on Facebook. Most of the victims were among Russian-speaking users in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus.

A malware is spreading around the world on the social network Facebook. The Trojan loader program Win32/Delf.QCZ penetrates the user’s computer through a social network chat, analysts from the antivirus software manufacturer Eset have found out. Using a bot, she sends messages on behalf of friends with a link to a site containing a malicious program. At the same time, the Trojan can block anti-virus protection if it has not been updated in time. The Facebook press service did not provide any comments on the situation.

“ The consequences of Win32/Delf.QCZ infection can be different - from loss of identification data ( login and password for a social network account) to theft of personal information or financial assets,”

– reports Eset. To date, the Trojan program Win32/Delf.QCZ has become most widespread in the Russian-speaking segment of Facebook, namely among users from Ukraine ( 39% of the total), Russia ( 19%), Belarus ( 9%).

Social networks are increasingly becoming the starting point for hacker attacks, and this does not depend on the popularity of the resource, says Alexander Matrosov, director of the Eset virus research and development center. According to Kaspersky Lab expert Sergei Golovanov, every day in Russia on average 2.1 thousand account holders on social networks are attacked by malicious programs. This is not just a trend, but the main fashion among Internet scammers, comments Andrey Yarnykh, head of the Internet solutions department at Kaspersky Lab.

“ Users of social networks are the most vulnerable, they themselves publish data about themselves, and it is easier for virus writers to create a personal virus that will infect users,”

– Yarnykh noted. The number of affected computers depends on the goals of the attackers: “ If they want to create a botnet network, then the infection is massive; if they identify accounts where financial information can be stolen, then the infection is targeted.”

Cybercriminals are becoming more and more active; about 80 thousand computers are infected every day in Russia. Over the past five years, the number of cyber attacks, including those using malware, has increased tenfold. Increasingly, instead of user ones, hackers hack into the networks of large corporations and government agencies and participate in cyber wars.

According to Kaspersky Lab, the leaders in the number of hackers are China, the countries of the former USSR, mainly Russia and Ukraine, Brazil and other Latin American countries, as well as Turkey.
