
Russian stock markets ended trading on August 18 with a sharp decline. According to RBC , the leading indices sank against an extremely negative external background.
At the end of the day, the RTS index fell by 4.79 percent to 1,584 points, and the MICEX index fell by 3.73 percent to 1,453 points. The leaders of the fall among the shares that are included in the calculation base of the MICEX index were securities of Rostelecom, which lost 7.42 percent, and shares of Sberbank, which as of 18:33 Moscow time decreased by 6.61 percent. VTB shares fell in price by six percent, and Gazprom securities lost a little less than four percent in price.
As Alexey Matrosov, head of the analytical department at Broco, predicts, Thursday’s events showed a significant dependence of Russian exchanges on external negativity, so on Friday, August 19, we can expect a further fall in Russian indices in the range of 1495-1460 points on the MICEX index.
