The word "retweet" is included in the Oxford Dictionary

The Oxford English Dictionary included the vocabulary of the so -called “generation of Igrek” in his new edition, the official blog of this most voluminous and popular dictionary in the world reports.

From now on, the expression “retweet” (retweet), the exclamation of “Woot”, expressing happiness, triumph or satisfaction, as well as the nickname “NOOB” (Noob) that are given to a newcomer in a particular field of activity became vocabulary. According to the authors of the dictionary, the first edition of Oxford Dictionary appeared in 1911 and even then it sought to reflect the language inherent in time. It was then that such “neologisms” of the Edwardian period as a plane, carburetor, motorist, radioactivity, ragtime, Zionism were in the dictionary. The editors of the first release, the Henry brothers and Frank Fowler, said that they recognize “conversational, witty, slang and vulgar expressions, but consider it proper to put warning notes, so where it is necessary.”

In recent years, the emergence of new means of communication has led to the acceleration of the evolution of the language. The authors of the dictionary pay attention that in recent years there is not only the addition of new words, but also a change in the meaning of old ones. So, for example, the word follener in the past was used in the sense of "follower, successor." Now it is most often used in the sense of a follower - a person who follows blogs and accounts on social networks. In the new edition there are no such “cave” expressions as Brabble (hitting) or Growlery (Hata, Berlog), but the doors opened with the colorful vocabulary of the English “ponds” to Oxford Dictionary.
