
The radar of an early warning about the threat of a missile attack within the framework of the US and NATO created by the missile defense system will be located in Turkey. According to RIA Novosti, this was announced by the official representative of the Foreign Ministry of the Selchuk Unal. The diplomat recalled that the decision to deploy a Proan system was made at the NATO summit in Lisbon, and Türkiye initially supported the work related to the implementation of this initiative.
Technical work and negotiations on the deployment of the radar are carried out at the direction of the government, in interaction with interested departments and organizations. According to the diplomat, they joined the final stage.
"The radar of the early warnings allocated by the United States NATO is planned to be placed in our country. The placement of this element in Turkey will ensure the contribution of our country to the defensive system developed as part of the new NATO strategy, will strengthen the defensive potential of NATO and our national defense system," said Selchuk Unal. The radar, integrated into the general Europrop system, according to local media reports, is planned to be placed in southeastern Turkey.
In July, the deputy official representative of the US State Department, Mark Toner, said that the United States was negotiating with a number of NATO countries regarding the location of the radar of the future European missile defense system. However, he did not report the details of the negotiations.
