According to the commission’s conclusion, a random failure of the gas generator in the RD-0110 engine of the third stage of the Soyuz launch vehicle has led to the fall of the ship. The four -chamber liquid engine operating on kerosene and liquid oxygen was developed at the Voronezh Design Bureau of Himavtomatics and was made at the Voronezh Mechanical Plant. Engines of this type are also used at the third stage of Soyuz-FG launch vehicles, Soyuz-2-1A and Soyuz-sta.

As the source emphasized, in connection with the identification of the random nature of the failure, the engines installed on missiles located at the Baikonur, Plesetsk and Kuru cosmodrome will not have to be returned to the manufacturer for overlapping.

The Soyuz-U launch vehicle with a cargo ship Progress M-12M started with Baikonur on August 24. The launch was led by the director of the Keldysh research center Academician Anatoly Koroteev. The truck was supposed to deliver more than 2.6 tons of cargo to the ISS. On board the "Progress", in particular, there were about 800 kilograms of highly toxic rocket fuel heptil, intended for the station.
