For seven years, she will have to invest at least 12 billion rubles in it. In July 2011, the new Holland first opened for everyone, on its territory, visitors could not only get acquainted with historical buildings, but also play beach volleyball and football, visit the shop of village products and cafes, as well as see the work of young artists.
The authorities of the Northern capital have tried to reconstruct the new Holland since 2006. Then the competition was won by LLC "ST" New Holland "" Shalva Chigirinsky and Igor Kesaev. By their order, the Norman Foster architectural bureau has developed a project to create a multifunctional complex with theaters, conference rooms, galleries, hotel and restaurants. However, subsequently Chigirinsky left the project due to financial problems. The authorities of St. Petersburg had to again look for an investor.
The architectural ensemble of the artificial island of New Holland belongs to monuments of federal significance. In the 1730s, warehouses for drying and storing the ship forest were erected on it, its modern architectural ensemble was created in the 18th-19th centuries. Until recently, warehouses of the Leningrad naval base were located on its territory.
