Former Vice President of Yukos Vasily Aleksanyan died on the evening of October 3 at home

Aleksanyan spent three years in a pre-trial detention center, he was diagnosed with AIDS, tuberculosis, and cancer. Not an angel or a demon. A self-made man... Complicated, strong, everything to its fullest, bursting.

Sharp in criticism, sharp in decisions. Something, but tore others for their own. And the others crawled away. But not those, the latter, who could even in the bones.

We were not close friends, lived different lives and never thought that we would be united by Prison.

Everyone thought that she choked on him, but no - she got there.

Successful, confident, stubborn. It won't be anymore.

Anton Nosik: 39-year-old lawyer Vasily Aleksanyan, a defendant in the Yukos case, has died.

In some ways, his story is similar to the fate of Sergei Magnitsky.

He, too, was kept terminally ill in the Matrosskaya Tishina special unit and promised medical assistance in exchange for a confession.

Aleksanyan did not give evidence and spent more than two and a half years in a pre-trial detention center. In prison, he was practically blind; he was diagnosed with AIDS, tuberculosis and malignant lymphoma.

On December 8, 2008, the Moscow City Court decided to release the dying lawyer from custody on bail of 50 million rubles.

The "liberation" was reduced to the fact that the convoy was removed from the hospital ward where he was, after making a bail.

It happened on December 30, 2008.

The defendant himself remained in the ward. Because the Moscow City Court can take away a person's health and life, but alas, return it.

On June 24, 2010, the criminal case against the former Yukos lawyer was dropped.

After another 15 months, Vasily Aleksanyan died.

And the people who promised to let doctors see him in exchange for self-incrimination are still guarding the sovereign Russian legality. And even, probably, they have received promotions since then - like their colleagues who killed Magnitsky in prison.
