After the fall of the Berlin wall, in the euphoric 90s, Francis Fukuyama wrote sarcastically that the Marxists remained only in Pyongyang and Harvard. Now, however, another era in the yard, as they are talking about throughout the world, a demonstration of protest against the financial policy of Western countries. The world recession shifted the pendulum to the left, and Marx's figure again loomed on the ideological horizon.
In this situation, the success of the new book about Karl Marx Mary Gabriels is clear. This 700-page folio has already managed to get to the finalists of the National Book Prize-the most prestigious literary prize of America. Another thing is that this is an unusual biography. It is called "Love and Capital" and is mainly devoted to the private, and to be honest, - the sexual life of Karl Marx and - at the same time - Friedrich Engels.
Critics complain that Mary Gabriel was carried away by scandalous details to the detriment of a serious analysis of the capitalist economy, but perhaps listeners, especially those who had to study Marxism at the school and university, the first will be more interesting than the second.

Presidents of the same period
In January last year, in an interview with ABC News, Diane Soyer Barack Obama admitted that he was lying and getting up "with voices in their heads" - complaints of people who have lost their jobs, business or housing. Soyer reacted instantly - so quickly that the president was confused.
Sawyer: At such moments, you ever thought: maybe one period is enough?
Obama: You know, I ... I will say this ... In one thing I am sure of sure: it is better to be a good president for one period than mediocre - for two.
The defeat in the struggle for re -election for a second term is not the end of the world. And far from always the elections were lost by bad leaders. Here are statistics. Of the 44 US presidents, only 11 were at the post of 2 full period. Three died during the first term, four were killed (two - during the first term, two - during the second). Nine presidents were not elected for a second term, seven - did not begin to be elected. Five people wanted, but lost the party nomination to another candidate.
And is it so bad to be the former head of state? Retired presidents receive many free goods, starting with treatment in the best military hospitals and ending with a subscription to newspapers and magazines. They are provided with security, secretaries and assistants, premises for personal archives, they have no problem with paying for trips and overnight in Washington. Privileges are multiplied from year to year. The pension of the ex-president is currently 199 thousand 700 dollars a year. The content of the former presidents is more expensive today than the content of the White House.
Milestones of the new Russia
The poet Lev Losev and the prose writer Tatyana Tolstoy brightly represent St. Petersburg literature. In comparison, their work immediately and acutely shows a characteristic feature of this school: Tolstoy writes poetic prose, Losev composed prose verses, poems in which prose became poetry, without ceasing to be prose.
