In the Cathedral of St. Mary in the city of San Francisco (California), a historical relic was stolen - a bell cast 122 years ago and survived both the 1906 earthquake and the 1962 fire. The loss was found only last Sunday. The police believe that the bell was abducted by ferrous metals.

It is paradoxical that no one can say when the theft was committed. After a fire in the cathedral in 1962, a relic weighing 2.7 tons was removed from the bell tower, putting on a wooden platform near the temple. In the 1970s, as part of the reconstruction, the Catholic cathedral acquired an audio system with loudspeakers reproducing the bell battle. “The abbot and parishioners cannot swear on the Bible when the bell was seen in its usual place for the last time,” Brian Dankeler told the police inspector on the eve of the police inspector.

According to ITAR-TASS, the cathedral does not have enough funds to pay for the manufacture of an exact copy of thieves. Therefore, it was decided to appoint a reward for the return of the bell. It was cast in 1899 in Baltimore (Maryland) and delivered through the country on a steam locomotive in San Francisco. “This is a very valuable historical object, the legacy of the Catholic Church,” the rector of the cathedral George Vesolek emphasized.
