Following the United States, Canada decided to stop UNESCO financing after the adoption of Palestine in its composition. This was stated by Canadian Foreign Minister John Bard.
He explained that the adoption of Palestine in UNESCO as a full-fledged member does not contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Middle Eastern conflict, ITAR-TASS reports.
Earlier, Bard said that Canada was "not happy with UNESCO made." “We are now evaluating the country's future in the organization and decide what our reaction will be,” he said, speaking to journalists.
Every year, Canada expenses the organizations of $ 10 million.
Palestine's application for joining UNESCO was approved on Monday, October 31, at the 36th session of the General Conference of this international organization held in Paris. 107 participating countries voted for this, against 14 states, including the United States and Israel.
Washington announced the freezing of UNESCO funding, which is 22 percent of its budget.
