Don't shoot yourself in the foot!

All the threats voiced by Medvedev are meaningless. For example, he strictly ordered the commissioning of a missile attack warning station (SPRN) in Kaliningrad. How will it be able to resist the American missile defense system, which must also respond to the launch of enemy missiles? Rather, this should alarm Lukashenka, who will no longer be able to blackmail the Kremlin with the fact that a Russian early warning station directed to the West is located in Belarusian Baranovichi. The second threat is the deployment of air defense systems to cover our strategic facilities. But the US plans to intercept enemy missiles, not Russian ones, and in addition, in the airspace, and not at the launch stage. In addition, the missiles that they are going to deploy in Europe simply will not reach the launch sites of our missiles. The third threat is to equip the strategic forces with the means to overcome the US missile defense system. But the Americans say: equip for God's sake, we're not building missile defense against you here. And the most ridiculous threat is to withdraw from the START-3 Treaty concluded between Russia and the United States in April 2010. It's definitely about that cowboy who shoots himself in the foot. The treaty obliges America to reduce its nuclear weapons carriers. And Russia has 2 times less strategic launch vehicles than the United States. At best, Russia will be able to reach the ceilings of the START Treaty by 2028.

In general, the whole story with missile defense has absolutely nothing to do with ensuring the military security of Russia. The country's leaders say: "We believe that the deployment of the American missile defense system hinders our nuclear capability." What they mean, they do not specify. And it means the following. One day, a distraught American president will order the first nuclear strike on Russia. The surviving Russian missiles will be raised in a retaliatory strike, and then they can be intercepted by the American missile defense system. Even if the owner of the White House goes crazy, it is unlikely that he will be driven insane to try in practice to check whether American means will intercept all of Russia's nuclear missiles or still miss something. In peacetime, this is virtually impossible to verify. Therefore, all talk about the fate of missile defense is purely political: Medvedev and Putin are not afraid of American missiles, they are afraid (and this is the paranoia that the Kremlin suffers from) of the “orange revolution”, which, according to the duumvirs, the “insidious” Americans can arrange in Russia in troubled period.
