Tehran claims to be shot down by an American unmanned RQ170 reconnaissance aircraft, which violated Iran’s airspace, Interfax reports with reference to the Al Jazeera Mesarabsky television channel.
"The drone has received minor damage. Now he is in the hands of the military," a source in the Iranian army said. He also noted that "Iran will not tolerate illegal penetration into its territory."
The Iranian authorities threatened that they would answer the violation of the air border "outside their territory".
The American military in response said: "There is no evidence" that the Iranians shot down their drone.
At the same time, representatives of the NATO contingent’s command in Afghanistan reported that the Iranian media may have in mind the American UAV, which executed the mission in Afghan territory and disappeared last week, Newsru Israel points out.
Reuters reports that the US military is currently not inclined to consider the statements of the Iranian side that the drone was shot down precisely. Perhaps the UAV fell due to the malfunction.
