A third of French people dream of returning to the franc

Ipsos, the French polling institute, published yesterday the results of a study on French attitudes towards the single European currency. It turned out that for 44% of the French, the euro is an obstacle in order to overcome the crisis. At the same time, 33% of respondents consider this currency an advantage. 36% would like to return to the franc.

All parties, except the National Front, agree that a return to the franc will aggravate the economic situation in the country. The leaders of the EU member states also believe that this is not the time to destroy the established system. At the end of this week, they will decide in Brussels exactly how to tighten fiscal discipline for countries mired in debt. Standard & Poor's warned today that it could downgrade the credit ratings of 15 eurozone countries in the next three months. This means for countries an increase in interest on loans and debts.
