According to the website The New Times , the capital's authorities are beginning repair work on Revolution Square, where an authorized opposition rally against fraud in the December 4 elections is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The order to begin repair work came on December 7 from First Deputy Mayor of Moscow Pyotr Biryukov, a source in the capital’s mayor’s office told The New Times. The work will be carried out by Mosvodokanal; if necessary, other city services will be involved: Mosgortrans and Mosavtotrans. Mosvodokanal workers are already on Revolution Square and will soon deploy barriers around the monument to Karl Marx. As the source explained, the mayor’s office is taking this step specifically in anticipation of new opposition protests.

15,000 people have already announced their intention to attend Saturday’s rally in a specially created event on Facebook.

UPD. Repair work on Revolution Square will end tomorrow, and the permitted protest against the election results will take place, told the Ekho Moskvy Moscow Deputy Mayor Alexander Gorbenko radio station. Concern about this is “in vain.” However, he noted that the Moscow authorities agreed to hold the rally in the amount of up to three hundred people. If the permitted number is exceeded, the action will be stopped and the organizers will be held accountable. If there are more people, the vice mayor asks the organizers to contact the authorities and they will be given another place.

As of midnight, December 7, 21,500 people confirmed participation in the rally, 6,900 people announced possible participation.
