In Zhukovsky near Moscow, United Russia actually lost the elections. This is a fact that even the local election commission was forced to admit. This does not mean at all that the elections in Zhukovsky were held fairly, the notorious administrative resource did not work and there was no falsification. This only means that the Zhukovites managed to stop most of them. Firstly, by the high turnout, secondly, by the painstaking work of observers, and thirdly, by the active position of citizens who were not lazy to check the voter lists and demanded to cross out the “aliens” who appeared from nowhere in their apartments. And finally, the principled position of the independent newspaper Zhukovskiye Vesti, which did not cede to swindlers and thieves the right of the press to control the course of elections and the counting of votes.

Undoubtedly, we still missed something, overlooked something... We must admit that fighting government falsifiers is an extremely difficult task. Many Zhukovsky residents believe that if not for the falsifications, United Russia would not have received even 10% in Zhukovsky. The degree of anger towards the party in power in the aviation science city has been growing for a long time. It began to manifest itself especially clearly two years ago, when the mayoral elections ended in failure for the current United Russia leader, Alexander Bobovnikov. He lost the election to an independent candidate. But Governor Gromov’s vertical came to the rescue, which demonstrated a magic trick - they threw 7,000 votes into the trash, canceling elections in five precincts. It was in these areas that the current head failed miserably. As a result, United Russia remained in power, but the illegitimacy of such power gave rise to what is now commonly called hidden protest. However, it was not so hidden - five thousand Zhukovites in a city of one hundred thousand came out to rally against the falsification of the presidential elections.

Three months later, public hearings were held in Zhukovsky on the design of the access road, which the entire vertical of power from local to federal decided to lay through a relict forest. Residents of Zhukovsky unconditionally said no to this project and even ordered a poll from the Levada Center so that the authorities would not deign to doubt that it is not a handful of marginal environmentalists who are against deforestation, but 80% of Zhukovsky residents. “So what,” said the United Russia mayor, “our people are simply so unprogressive, and therefore we will build a road across the forest anyway, because Putin himself blessed it.” It is difficult to say whether Putin found out about the opinion poll of the Levala Center, but he poured money into the project that Zhukovites hated.

Mayor Zhukovsky is generally in trouble with forest areas. Before he had time to get used to the curses for the Tsagov forest (the same one along which they were going to build the road), a new scandal arose. Journalists from Zhukovskiye Vesti unearthed an almost funny story - how the head of the local city property, Mr. Sedunov, sold his wife a piece of a city park covered with centuries-old pine and spruce trees. And he didn’t just sell it, but for a symbolic price under Article 36 of the Land Code. Allegedly as the owner of a property in the form of an old fence of an abandoned city water pump. The prosecutor's office, under pressure from journalists, even opened a criminal case, having discovered that a high-ranking official first sold the fence to a mentally ill person, and he rushed to sell it to the official's wife... In general, a simple, quite corruption scheme, but the mayor did not fire the official and even promoted him to his position , adding the status of deputy head of the city. And all because he tried, apparently, not only for himself - after all, the resolution on the sale of a plot of forest in the park was signed by the mayor himself. The people in Zhukovsky are indignant, but the head is silent and tightly holds on to the chair, above which hang two portraits - Putin and Medvedev .
