The list of grounds for the complaint is summarized by the fact that Yashin and Navalny were placed in custody for 15 days “solely on the basis of false testimony from police officers and falsified materials from administrative cases.”

The complaint contains demands “to oblige the Russian authorities to take urgent measures for their release and make a decision on priority consideration of the case.” Navalny and Yashin intend to prove that there have been violations of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms under articles: 10 and 11 (right to free expression, freedom of assembly and association), 5 (right to liberty and security of person) ), 6 (right to a fair trial), 3 (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment). They also ask the ECHR to order the payment of fair compensation.
