That winter, I just came to Prague for the first time - I had never been in this wonderful city before. Winter, gets dark early. The day is shorter than the night. Therefore, that picture was remembered especially vividly. Most of the day above the Prague City, a huge scarlet heart burned over all Prague.
It was amazing - but incomprehensible. And we asked Prazhan what this means. And they answered us: our president, Vaclav Gavel leaves. The term of his reign ends, and in gratitude from us is a heart.
The Czech people escorted the departing president with a large, shining in the night for many days, with his heart prominent from everywhere. What else can you add here?
I would very much like that once and in my country a president appeared, who would leave his post, without extending his powers to infinity and not appointing successors. The president who may not be a great politician, strategist, leader. Which will be just a decent person. Honest, worthy - so that if not every of us, but most could say: this is my president.
The president who would be an example. For which I would vote not because there is no more for anyone or because the rest are worse. And because for someone else it is simply impossible to vote while there is such a person.
The Czechs were lucky. They had such a president.
