The first 11 months of 2011 have become the safest for air transport since 1945, writes the Los Angeles Times newspaper with reference to the report of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
So, the number of plane crashes from January to November 2011 was 22 percent less than the same period last year. In total, 486 passengers and crew members became the victims of air transports this year, while 784 people were killed in 2010.
Most of the accidents in 2011 (23 percent) occurred on the runway, when the planes deviated from the course or went beyond the GDP.
The representative of IATA could not explain why the first 11 months of this year became the safest for air transport. Nevertheless, he noted that manufacturers began to develop more reliable aircraft that include backup security systems.
Note that earlier Russia was recognized as the most dangerous country in the world for passenger transportation. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal. So, the number of plane crashes in our country exceeded similar indicators in the Congo and Indonesia. This year, nine aircraft crashed in Russia, among the high-profile cases- the death of the Lokomotiv hockey team near Yaroslavl and the Tu-134 crash near Petrozavodsk. The publication notes that foreign companies sometimes forbid their employees to use Russian carriers during business trips.
