Journalist Oleg Lurie, convicted of extortion by former senator Vladimir Slutsker, was released a month ahead of schedule, his wife Natalya Lurie told RIA Novosti. "The Presidium of the Moscow City Court on December 23 changed the verdict and, due to amendments to the legislation, reduced the appointed term by one month. After that, Oleg was released from the pre -trial detention center," she said.

Until the end of the four -year period, Lurie remained exactly a month. The case against him was opened in 2007 on the fact of extortion by the senator from Chuvashia Vladimir Slutsker and his ex -wife Olga. The court found that in July 2006, Lurie, extorted 50 thousand dollars from the spouses for non -publication of incriminating materials.

In March 2009, the Tver court of Moscow sentenced Lurie to eight years in a maximum security colony. A few months later, the Moscow City Court reduced this punishment to four years in prison.

In the summer of 2011, the Golovinsky court of Moscow refused to apply the amendments that entered into force, and the defense of the journalist filed a complaint against this decision. As a result, the Presidium of the Moscow City Court granted the complaint and reduced the sentence.

In September, the jury unanimously justified Lurie in the second case - about slander at the investigator of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
