Russia's largest oil company, Rosneft, intends to enter into an agreement in February 2012 on a new joint venture with the American Exxon Mobil. This was announced by the head of Rosneft, Eduard Khudainatov , RIA Novosti reports .

He did not explain what the new joint venture would do, but noted that the new project is difficult for Rosneft: “Very complex projects, for us these are new projects, work in the states requires attention.”

Rosneft and Exxon Mobil entered into a strategic partnership agreement on August 30 this year. As part of the cooperation, the parties will jointly develop fields on the Arctic shelf, and will also create an Arctic research and design center for shelf development in St. Petersburg. In the joint venture, which will develop offshore areas, Russian oil companies will own 66.7 percent of the capital, and American ones - 33.3 percent.

In exchange, Rosneft will have the opportunity to work at Exxon Mobil's American sites in the Gulf of Mexico and Texas. The parties will also cooperate in developing fields in third countries. Prior to this, Rosneft and Exxon Mobil also agreed on the joint development of hydrocarbon fields in the Russian section of the Black Sea shelf.
