The police did not record significant violations of public order during the celebration of the New Year in St. Petersburg, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city and the Leningrad Region reports.

"At the same time, most of the calls to law enforcement agencies were reference and information in nature. Most often, the police went to complaints about loud music, accident and drunken fights," the department noted.

"In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, about a million people took part in the festivities. About 670 thousand people gathered in the center of St. Petersburg," the report said.

In turn, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of St. Petersburg Interfax reported that on the morning of January 1 a serious fire arose at the Karelia Hotel on Marshal Tukhachevsky Avenue. “The fire broke out at about 4:18. However, at 5:00 the fire was localized,” the source said. He noted that on the 14th floor a number of 16 square meters and 10 sq. Meters of the corridor burned out. “40 people were evacuated. As a result of the fire, no one was injured,” he added.
