Representatives of the OSCE Bureau for democratic institutions and human rights, who arrived in Kazakhstan to observe the preparation for extraordinary parliamentary elections, could not visit the city of Zhanaozen, where riots occurred in mid -December.
At the same time, representatives of the mission managed to meet with the leadership of the region, prosecutors and human rights activists during a visit to the neighboring city of Aktau, the administrative center of the Mangistau region.
Today, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev extended until January 31 the action of a state of emergency in Zhanaozen, where, as a result of mass riots with the participation of dismissed employees of oil transfers, 16 people were killed, more than 100 were injured.
Extraordinary parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan will be held on January 15 and 16.
