
As a result of a serious car accident in Buryatia, five people were killed on the federal highway M-55 Baikal, nine were injured, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation in the republic said.
The tragedy occurred near the village of Troitskoye in the Baikal district at 11:35 Moscow time on Thursday. The frontal clash was made by the Toyota minivan and a passenger foreign car.
"Wounded people are hospitalized in the hospitals of Ulan -Ude, the villages of Selenginsk and Ilyinka," the Ministry of Emergencies specified.
According to the preliminary version of the local traffic police, the cause of the collision was the exit to the oncoming lane of one of the cars and the excess of the permitted speed, ”ITAR-TASS reports.
A large number of victims and victims are due to the fact that passengers and drivers of cars were not fastened with seat belts, the traffic police noted.
