The information obtained by hackers as a result of breaking into the servers of the private intelligence company Stratfor revealed the data of several hundred American and British officials. The discovery was reported by The Guardian, which commissioned the study.

Among the data of 850 thousand people that were freely available were the email addresses of former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Vice President of the country Dan Quayle. In addition, the data of 242 NATO employees, 221 representatives of the British Ministry of Defense, as well as several dozen employees of other British government agencies, including 67 police officers, were published.

The bulk of Stratfor's published subscriber data contains email addresses and encrypted passwords. However, The Guardian notes, the credit card data of 75 thousand people was also stolen. At the end of December, the Identify Finder company reported that more than 50 thousand credit card data were publicly available, including 9651 with an unexpired validity period.

Hackers from the Anonymous movement announced the hacking of Stratfor servers on December 25, 2011. The hackers say they skimmed nearly $1 million from Stratfor clients' credit cards and distributed it to charities. The company's website was disabled after the hack and remains inaccessible at the time of writing.

On January 6, Stratfor founder and director George Friedman posted on page the company's Facebook that scammers were sending emails to the company's clients from the George.Friedman@Stratfor.com email account. He emphasized that this address has nothing to do with him, and asked subscribers not to transfer their personal data to the attackers.

Stratfor, or Strategic Forecasting Inc., is a privately held American company that collects and analyzes information, particularly related to information security. The company does not disclose information about its clients, but it is believed that Stratfor's services are used by large American companies and government agencies.
