The suicide bomber, dressed in a policeman, blew himself up in the Iraqi city of Basra. According to the latest data, 20 people were killed, mainly police officers.
The purpose of the attack, according to local authorities, was a group of Shiite pilgrims, traditionally heading these days to the city of Karbel, to participate in religious ceremonies in memory of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
The attack occurred today at the checkpoint on the outskirts of Basra.
