More than 140 years in prison: that’s how much the US prosecutor’s office requested for a hacker from Russia. Vladimir Zdorovenin was detained in Switzerland and soon extradited to America. In Russia, such a term is called excessively cruel, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included a hacker in a report on numerous violations of freedoms in the United States. A hacker from Russia, Vladimir Zdorovenin, and his son Kirill organized a criminal group, stole the personal information of several thousand bank card owners and, through fraud, embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars - at least, this is what the US Attorney's Office believes. She has already charged the hacker and asked for 142 years in prison.

By Russian standards, this is a huge period, said Alexey Ryzhkin, senior lawyer at the law firm Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasyev and Partners.

“If, for example, a person was brought to justice in the Russian Federation for similar crimes, under Article 272 “Illegal access to computer information” a maximum of 5 years of imprisonment, under Article 183 “Illegal disclosure, receipt of information constituting a trade secret” - 5 years, — he says. “And the maximum, for two or three offenses, is no more than 20 years in prison.”

It is worth noting that Vladimir Zdorovenin himself unexpectedly ended up in the report of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the situation with human rights in a number of countries around the world, which is devoted to numerous cases of violation of the freedoms of citizens in the United States and other countries. Zdorovenin is indicated briefly in it, however, without commenting on what exactly the United States violates human rights. However, the author of this report, Human Rights Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Konstantin Dolgov, is confident that America in this case is violating international law.

“Officially, these accusations were not brought to the Russian side by the American authorities,” he says. “If it does not fulfill these obligations, then we will take this into account and build on this situation. Unfortunately, in the past, the American side in similar situations was by no means always fulfilled its obligations. It's true."

However, according to some experts, the fact that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs became interested in this case and included it in the human rights report is unlikely to change anything for Vladimir Zdorovenin himself.

The hacker’s son, Kirill, is still at large; the American prosecutor’s office has not reported anything about his whereabouts.
