Members of the UN Security Council agreed on the points of the resolution on the unrest in Syria. Before the document is adopted, it will be sent for approval to the capitals of the member countries of the Security Council.

Thus, the open call for Bashar al-Assad to surrender the presidency and leave the government, as well as the clause on stopping the supply of weapons to Syria, disappeared from the project. However, the document states that if Syria does not comply with the conditions contained in the resolution, “sanctions will be adopted.”

US Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice expressed hope that “the final text will be published this evening or tomorrow morning,” Reuters reports . S. Rice clarified that everything will depend on the agreement on the text of the resolution in the capitals of the 15 member countries of the UN Security Council.

Protests in Syria have been going on for about 10 months. All this time, the UN Security Council discussed a project to resolve the situation. The initial version was rejected by Russia and China. The Russian Foreign Ministry considered that the UN does not have sufficient powers to intervene in the solution of political problems in Syria.
