Poland extradites former Russian prosecutor Ignatenko to his homeland

The district court in the Polish city of Nowy Sanch decided to extradite to Russia the person involved in the case of underground casinos in the Moscow region, ex-prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko, who was arrested in early January in Poland, RIA Novosti reports .

Now Ignatenko has seven days to appeal the verdict. If the Court of Appeal upholds the decision of the court in Nowy Sącz, the decision will have to be approved by the Minister of Justice of Poland.

Ex-prosecutor Ignatenko was put on the international wanted list in connection with the "gambling case", which caused a great public outcry. According to the investigation, businessman Ivan Nazarov organized a network of underground casinos in 15 cities of the Moscow region. Law enforcement authorities believe that high-ranking prosecutors and the Ministry of Internal Affairs were involved in the illegal business, which brought in income from 5 million to 10 million dollars a month.

Ignatenko was detained on January 1 at the ski resort of Zakopane in Poland, where he arrived on a fake passport to meet his wife and son. On January 4, the district court in Nowy Sącz decided to temporarily arrest him for 40 days, until February 9, 2012.
