Let us recall that the day before information appeared that special units of British and Qatari special forces were sent to Syria. Foreign military personnel will allegedly serve as instructors, but do not intend to participate in clashes with Syrian units.

These messages were greeted with alarm in Moscow. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Alexander Lukashevich, said that the department intends to double-check these data.

“I have not seen such messages, we will, naturally, double-check the reliability of these information flows, but this is a very alarming aspect,” noted A. Lukashevich. Commenting on information coming from the US State Department about plans to create a so-called society of friends of Syria, the Foreign Ministry representative noted that Russia is against any formats aimed at interfering in the situation in Syria on the side of only one of the groups participating in the conflict. “We have a wary attitude towards various formats that we do not consider legitimate. We already had an unsuccessful experience in creating “groups of friends” in Libya,” noted the Foreign Ministry representative.

Earlier this week, US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland announced the start of preparations for a meeting of “friends of Syria.” The task of such an organization, according to a representative of the American State Department, should be to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian rebels.
