Microsoft is working to enter the text into a smartphone through clothing fabric

Microsoft research unit develops a method for entering text on sensory displays through clothing fabric. Thanks to the new technology, the word can be typed using gestures, without removing a smartphone from a jacket or trouser pocket, Vesti.ru reports citing the American newspaper The New York Times .

The idea of ​​engineers from Microsoft Research is to place an additional sensory panel on the back cover of the device. Such a screen can respond to touch through the fabric - silk, cotton or even thick wool. Words can be introduced both entirely and iner. Special software is responsible for deciphering handwriting.

According to the developers, their innovative method, called PocketTouch, is not designed to replace a conventional display, but will come in handy in cases where it is urgent to send an email or SMS, and the smartphone is inconvenient (for example, being at a meeting).

So far, Microsoft engineers only have a display prototype. The next step is to use PocketTouch on a working smartphone. Whether this idea will find commercial use is unknown.
