Information about the lecturer :
Edward Lutwak is a recognized specialist in military strategy, former adviser to the President of the United States of America Ronald Reagan. Edward Lutvak performed the functions of a consultant in the US National Security Council (Office of the Secretary of Defense, The National Security Council), as well as in the US State Department (The Us Department of State). He is currently an expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies - CSIS), acts as an adviser in a number of other government and public organizations. Luttvak has direct experience in planning and implementing military operations, took part in several regional wars. In China, based on Lutwak’s book “Strategy. The logic of war and peace ”students of the Military Academy study the military strategy.
The methodology of social sciences: Edward Luttvak introduced into scientific use a number of concepts that are now widely used in the social sciences: he is considered the founder of geoeconomics, many political scientists and sociologists willingly use the concept of “turbocapitalism” developed by it. But what is more significant - Luttvak has developed a special methodology for a comprehensive analysis of the structure and functioning of states (both small and unstable state formations, as well as large superpowers and empires). In the most concentrated form, its methodological developments are presented in the book “Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace” (The Strategy: Logic of War and Peace), as well as in “CoupP D'état: A Practical Handbook). Obviously, the author of these books actively uses the theoretical developments presented in them both in his practice of an adviser in strategy and in the scientific research conducted by him in the field of history.
History: The first scientific-historical book was published by Edward Luttvak in 1976: “The Strategy of the Roman Empire ...” (The Grand Stratgy of the Roman Empire). Then there was a long break, during which the author improved his methodological apparatus and checked theoretical developments in practice, and also studied the sources and surveys of his colleagues-historians. However, during this period, nevertheless, a number of books are published in which Luttvak’s interest in history was clearly manifested, for example: “The Strategy of the Soviet Union” (The Grant Strategy of the Soviet Union. 1983). And finally, in November 2009, Harvard University Press was published by the book “The Grand Strategy of Byzantine Empire). This book, undoubtedly, gives the right to appropriate Luttvak, in addition to the title of the world-famous specialist in military strategy and geopolitics, also the title of invantine historian, specialist in antiquity, a military historian.
