Paramount's studio is seeking a prohibition on the publication of the continuation of the "godfather"

The Hollywood film studio Paramount Pictures appealed to the court in order to prohibit the publication of the continuation of the cult novel "Cross Father" by the American writer Mario Puzu (1920-1999). This was announced by Hollywood Reporter .

According to him, the lawsuit was filed against his son and arbitrariness of the fiction writer - Anthony Rutrozo, who, according to the film studio, violated and intends to violate again the agreement on the transfer of the Paramount Pictures of exclusive rights to replicate the literary and cinematic sequels of the work, ITAR -TASS reports.

According to the statement of claim, in 1969, Paramount Pictures acquired a share in copyright for the famous novel. The agreement granted the film studio "The sole and exclusive right to release literary, dramatic and other arrangements of the work and its characters."

In accordance with this document in 1972, the famous film adaptation of the Cross Fransis Ford Coppola was shot, and two continuations in 1974 and 1990.

After the death of Puzu in 1999, his son expressed interest in the publication of the continuation of the novel written by other authors.

In 2002, Paramount Pictures and the writer’s heir concluded a memorandum of understanding, which provided for the endowment of the Random House publishing house by the right to publish only one single continuation of the work. Two years later, the novel "Return of the Cross Father" was published.

But Puzu’s heirs did not stop there in 2006, without notifying the studio, authorized the publication of the book “Revenge of the Cross Father”, which was sold out extremely poorly.

According to the plaintiff, the “revenge of the godfather”, released in violation of the memorandum, “deprived the original of its brilliance and mislead readers through advertising and marketing.”

Paramount Pictures suspects the son of Mario Puzo in an effort to publish a third continuation of the novel and appealed to the court demanding that it be allowed.

The box office from the rental of the "godfather" over the world exceeded $ 268 million, the second part - $ 193 million, and the third part of the 1990 film epic - $ 136.8 million.
